Dental Implants: Everything You Need to Know
Have you lost a tooth and are looking for a good way to replace it? A missing tooth can make eating and speaking less comfortable, and it can also affect how you feel about your smile. If the space is left untreated for a long time, the surrounding teeth and jawbone can change. Dental implants are a possible solution for replacing a missing tooth and restoring normal function.
What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that a surgeon places into your jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the bone heals around the post, a connector piece (the abutment) is attached, and a custom crown, bridge, or full set of teeth is fixed on top.
Beyond restoring natural function, allowing you to eat and speak normally, implants are backed by decades of clinical research. A systematic review reported a ten-year implant survival rate of 96.4%. A separate review covering 7,711 implants over an average of 13.4 years reported a survival rate of 94.6% with minimal bone loss.
Who Needs a Dental Implant?
Not every missing tooth requires the same replacement. Dental implants may be considered when one or more teeth are missing and the gums and jawbone can adequately support an implant.
Patients usually come to us after:
- A tooth was removed because of decay or gum disease
- An accident or sports injury knocked out a tooth
- A root canal did not save a badly damaged tooth
- Dentures keep slipping or causing sore spots
- A bridge has failed
Age matters less than bone volume, gum health, and how well conditions like diabetes are managed. Heavy smoking and certain bone medications can raise the risk of failure, and your dentist will talk you through this before you decide.

Dental Implants vs Bridges vs Dentures
The choice of tooth replacement depends on factors including stability, preservation of surrounding teeth, maintenance requirements and the effect on the underlying jawbone. The three commonly used options are dentures, bridges and dental implants. These differ significantly in how they replace a missing tooth.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost in India
The cost of dental implants depends on how many teeth are to be replaced, the material used and the level of complexity of the procedure.
Cost of a Single Dental Implant
A single implant with a crown in India usually costs between ₹25,000 and ₹60,000. Upgrading to premium global implant brands or opting for custom aesthetic zirconia crowns can push total costs to ₹80,000 or more.
Full Mouth / Multiple Teeth Implant Cost
- All-on-4 (per arch): Starts ₹2,00,000 onwards
- All-on-6 (per arch): Starts at ₹2,50,000 onwards
- Full mouth (both jaws): Starts at ₹4,50,000 onwards
What Affects Dental Implant Pricing?
The price of your implant doesn’t necessarily mean the total price of the procedure. The following are among the things that could increase the price of your treatment:
- Implant brand: Different brands have different price points.
- Crown material: Zirconia generally costs more than porcelain-fused-to-metal.
- Diagnostics: CBCT scans and guided surgery can add to the cost.
- Additional procedures: Bone grafting or sinus lifts may be necessary.
- Surgeon and location: Experience, clinic setup, and city also influence pricing.
Types of Dental Implants
Most implants today are made of titanium, which has decades of research behind it and survival rates ranging from 92.6% to 100%. Zirconia (ceramic) implants are metal-free and tooth-coloured, which some patients prefer. Dental implants vary by the materials used and their technological configurations, tailored specifically to your unique jawbone volume, aesthetic preferences, and bite structure.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
The All-on-4 system utilises four titanium implants to support a complete arch of fixed prosthetic teeth. The posterior implants are placed at an angle to maximise the use of available bone, which can often reduce the need for bone grafting. Evidence supports the long-term stability of this approach, with a meta-analysis of 55 studies reporting 99.20% survival at one year and 98.14% survival over long-term follow-up.
All-on-6 Dental Implants
This technique places 6 implants across the jaw to distribute chewing (occlusal) forces across additional support points. By spreading the structural load more evenly across the entire implant system, All-on-6 provides enhanced stability for long-term function, boasting a proven long-term implant survival rate of 97.50%.
All-on-8 Dental Implants
All-on-8 uses 8 implants per jaw and is reserved for patients with strong bite forces or heavy zirconia bridges. This technique provides the highest level of structural support available. Because it carries a higher cost and requires dense, healthy bone structure across the entire arch, it is only recommended when detailed 3D diagnostic scans indicate a specific need.
The Dental Implant Procedure at Dent Ally
Dental implant placement is done through different phases, starting from assessment to implant placement and final restorations. All the phases will depend on the oral health status, bone condition and restorations of the patient.
Step-by-Step Procedure
- Step 1: Consultation and 3D scan: Our dentist assesses your teeth and conducts a CBCT scan in order to decide where each implant should be placed.
- Step 2: Treatment plan and cost estimate: You get a written plan listing implants, crown material, visits, and the total cost.
- Step 3: Preparatory work & same-day placement: If your treatment plan includes a tooth extraction, bone grafting, or a sinus lift, the dentist performs it first. Some of the procedures can be done on the same day as the implants.
- Step 4: Implant placement: Under local anaesthesia, the dentist places the implant into the jawbone.
- Step 5: Healing: Over 3-6 months, the bone grows around the implant and locks it into place. You wear a temporary tooth in the meantime.
- Step 6: Abutment and crown fitting: Once healed, the abutment is attached, impressions are taken, and your final crown or bridge is fitted.
- Step 7: Follow-up: Check-ups should be done at 3 months, 6 months, and then once a year. Brush, floss, and avoid tobacco to keep your implant healthy.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Is the dental implant procedure painful?
No. At Dent Ally, we utilise advanced local anaesthesia and minimally invasive 3D guided surgery techniques. Most patients report that getting an implant is less uncomfortable than a simple tooth extraction. Post-operative discomfort is easily managed with standard over-the-counter pain medication.
- How long does the entire dental implant process take?
The timeline varies from patient to patient. The surgical placement of the implant takes only 30 to 60 minutes. However, the implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration), which takes about 3 to 4 months. In certain favourable cases, we offer ‘Immediate Loading’ implants where the tooth is fixed on the same day.
- Am I too old to get dental implants?
Age is rarely a limiting factor for dental implants. More important factors are your overall health, your gum health, and the amount of jawbone available. We have successfully placed implants in patients in their 70s and 80s, drastically improving their quality of life.
- What is the success rate of the best dental implants?
When performed by experienced specialists like the team at Dent Ally, and with proper patient aftercare, titanium dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%.
- Are there payment plans available for the dental implant cost in India?
Yes, we understand that full mouth rehabilitation and premium implants are an investment. We offer flexible payment options and can phase your treatment to make the permanent teeth fixing cost comfortable for your budget.
- How do I clean and maintain my new dental implants?
You care for dental implants the same way you would your natural teeth. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting Dent Ally for professional cleanings and routine check-ups every 6 months will ensure your implants last a lifetime.
