Different Types of Braces and their Costs

Not able to smile confidently?

Have crooked teeth?

Want the smile of your dreams?

Orthodontic/braces therapy is done to straighten teeth and guide them to the corrected position. Braces are mostly used to correct irregular teeth positioning, jaw correction, improvement in chewing and smile aesthetics.

There are different types of orthodontic treatment/ braces treatment and each type is best suited to treat specific conditions.

We have listed below the different types along with the details that you should know as you decide on the orthodontic treatment that you would like to undergo.

  1. Metal Braces (INR 30,000 onwards)Metal braces hold teeth together using metal brackets and wires. Modern metal braces are smaller and less obvious than traditional metal braces of years past, though they still work the same. Metal braces are the least expensive braces option.

2. Ceramic Braces (INR 40,000 onwards):While they are the same size and shape of metal braces, their brackets blend in your natural tooth color and hence are less visible to the eye. They also correct alignment quicker. Given that they are less visible, they are preferred by adults and teenagers who are concerned about their aesthetics.

3. Self Ligating Braces (INR 55,000 onwards): These type of braces have an advanced shutter lock system which do not need elastic or rubber bands to hold the wire in place. Thus, it is much more comfortable with smaller brackets which can be cleaned easily. This makes the treatment process more comfortable. An added advantage of the system is that it reduces the treatment duration as compared to conventional braces. This system can be used with metal or ceramic brackets.

4. Lingual Braces (INR 65,000 onwards): Lingual Braces are heavy metal braces that are placed behind the teeth. As these are not visible, they are highly aesthetic. Given that they are placed behind the teeth, they do cause some discomfort as compared to the other braces.

5. Invisible Aligners (INR 60,000 onwards): This is the most advanced, comfortable and most aesthetic option of braces and does not require regular visits to the dentist. This is an option that is preferred by patients who are adults. Also, it a big preference for patients  who travel a lot as it does not require regular visits to the dentist for tightening, elastics etc.

Regarding the right age to get braces, there is no right age that can be determined as each individual is different and that has a unique treatment need. Orthodontic treatment can be started as young as 7 years old with preventive orthodontic treatment being the basis here. Given the advancements in technology these days, there is no upper limit in terms of age for braces.  If there is a need, braces can be put at any age.
